Google says – you’re site better be mobile friendly, or else!

Yesterday April 21 2015 was the day that Google pushed the button on “Mobilegeddon” causing small businesses and big brands to scramble to revamp their websites for mobile devices.

The update has been on the cards for a while now. We all know the importance of a good mobile experience, with Google reporting that 60% of web traffic now comes from mobile devices.

Google’s algorithm update will favour mobile friendly websites in search results, giving a ranking boost to mobile friendly websites. Whilst it will have no impact on desktop rankings, websites that fail to be mobile friendly could find a dip in users and potentially a dip in sales.

To find out whether your webpage meets Google’s new criteria, you can check it for free at Google check: http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/. Enter your website URL/web address, such as tristarwebsolutions.co.uk, and Google will tell you if it’s all good. If it’s not, Google will identify particular issues it finds and suggest ways to make the site mobile friendly.

If it’s not mobile friendly, you need to be discussing the options available with your web developer. The quicker you react, the more chance you have of appearing in Google searches above your competitors.
