Pinterest – The benefits for SEO

pinterest1As soon as you get used to Facebook, Twitter etc... as a form of marketing up pops another one!

Have you heard of Pinterest? (That's the name an amalgamation of the words 'Pin' & 'Interest' if you had not spotted that yet).

Well this is the latest social network that has popped up and is already becoming popular.

So what's it all about?
Well it appears this network is all about posting high quality images on a large pin board, based around interests.

Currently it is only Beta 'Invite Only' so you need to go and request an invite to join the site, I received an invite to join a day after my request, I am not sure how that bit works but it appeared I already had friends on there when I logged in for the first time.

If your target audience is female, then currently the site has a 97% female following so again if your products and services are based within this market place it could be ideal for your business.

So What is it useful for?
Well as far as I can see it is a good way of promoting products and services that are quite visual such as, Wedding Services, Photography, Shoes and Fashion seem to be quite big, Gardening, Art, Hobbies, in-fact any thing that would gather a following.

What you do?
Well you set-up boards and 'Pin' images and videos to your boards that are based on interests, people follow, like, comment, repost your images and they then get spread across the site. oh I accidently shared my first post on Facebook and Twitter!! so you can share your posts across the key social networks. These shares across Twitter and Facebook can then be liked, retweeted, embedded, emailed by anyone that visits the posts.

So how does it work for SEO?
Well Pinterest is gradually building on Google with posts generating links and keywords and as it is based around interests, those that follow are people that are willing to visit your site. It’s much easier to spread word about a local event or video messages to the interested people of local consumers, than it is to battle it out over keywords on YouTube.

The pin-collections make it easier for people to identify your marketing and since pin-collections are topic specific, they can be made location specific by shifting the focus of the topic to a location.
Social SEO has a massive positive of offering better reporting in Analytics. You will see in your Analytics report, which item of Pinterest content earned a referral click and you can see that item from your dashboard.

You’ll can then track people who promote your content, interact with them and put together a promotional strategy with feedback and analytics stats from them on what kind of content they can promote best!

Well that's just a quick overview and there appears to be benefits based on back linking from your blogs etc.. I have to work it all out yet, but it may be time to 'Get Pinning'!
